The election.

Here in California the only thing at stake in the Presidential race is how many points Obama will bank up on his way to our 55 EVs, and what the turnout will be. No Senate races, and our state-wide offices are in two years. I live in the seventh-most Democratic House district in the country (and the most Dem district west of South Philly and da Bronx) so that race isn't appearing on Swing State Project any time soon. PVI D+38, baybee. Given the state habit of legislation by iniative, we do have one super-hot proposition race though.

For those of you who have just joined me here, or who were as out of it as I was in mid-August, I lost a friend of mine after a short illness. As we were laying out the funeral baked meats, someone remarked to the organizer (one of Mark's closest friends) that "it wasn't the party you were planning". I realized that Mark and his partner of 36 years had been planning to get legally married before, well, being in ICU and not coming out changed everything.

Since Mark had both a deep love and an encyclopedic knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, this video made me both smile and cry when [livejournal.com profile] wondersheep posted it a short while back. [livejournal.com profile] themagdalen posted it again recently. So, you may have seen it already, but if you haven't, please do.

More like the last three days.

More youtube (man, I am loving having working speakers again):

Recovery music:
Walk On, U2 (this one got me through the fall of 2001)
The Long Way Around, Dixie Chicks
And because they're gorgeous:
The late Sandy Denny (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] angevin2 for that link, which lead to me finding:)
Gaudete by Steeleye Span

Laptop still won't boot after bios update. I am going to try a new xp installation in a different directory than the current one, but might need to punt and call Dell.

Thursday: Justice button hove into view as I was driving to work. I was able to LOL at it. I got a rerun in the afternoon where I wanted to yell and throw things at someone, but I kind of got over that when I read that some fool at the RNC had called Obama "uppity". Holy snapping assholes, Batman!

(The Palinpalooza has wanted to make me tear my hair out for a number of reasons - OH HAI PEOPLE, sexism is not ok when the target is a Republican - but I will say that if you haven't seen the extremely funny Jon Stewart double standards video, go see it.)

Friday: Had a lovely dinner with the charming [livejournal.com profile] cat_herder that involved quantities of beer and conversations in lolcat. It was an excellent antidote to a sucky day.

Today: It's hot and sticky in here, and I have been avoiding finishing the flyer I need to do for church tomorrow. I am thinking about turning in and getting up early. It's now cooler outside the house so I have opened the window and positioned the fan in front of it with the hope that Lucy doesn't launch herself out again. (If so, well, she'll be in the nice cool basement.)

John and Elizabeth Edwards.

That is all.

For the first time in God-knows, I am not voting in an election for which I am present. I realized after the re-registration deadline that my Strategic Voting Party Switch meant that I couldn't vote in the primary that I am usually affiliated with. I was both unexited by the candidates and grooving on the fact that the Off Party means that I don't get nearly as many phone calls.

Turnout will be abysmal (Charlotte's Turnout-O-Meter got a reading of "biiiig yawn"). I realize that I'm not exactly in my normal Political Junkie frame of mind due to My Issues but damn this was a boring campaign. I can't even get het up about the propositions.

My prediction is that the Governator will remember how to campaign and win reelection. It's the Dem's election to lose and especially if Tweedle-even-dumber wins the nom, I think they'll lose it fair and square. I'll vote, if only to give myself the right to bitch.

I will finally re-register, and try to leave my phone # off. I've gotten fewer calls, but the ones I get really piss me off, because they're mostly OHNOES!!TEHGAYS!11!AREDESTROYINGMARRIAGE!! I got a live call from someone the night before Katrina made landfall and was just gobstruck at the fucked up priorities.

Once again, [livejournal.com profile] tinyprayers has found one of those "I wish I'd written that" pieces, this one about the misuse of the L-word (and stooopid labeling) in the Church. (Yes! We get it too.) A lot of what the author says rings very true for me.

Some of you may have seen this other places, but if not, here goes:

Why I Am Not a """Liberal"""

I might expand on this some on the new, improved BFG when I have a chance.
